Fried Okra

I grew up eating okra/lady fingers but always in stews. Never fried. When I read a post in Flavors where Fran tells us about these fried okras I thought to myself, ‘I have to try it’. I just get curious about different ways of preparing things. From when I read the post to when I finally got round to preparing the dish it was quite some time. However, it was worth the wait. Even though I did not have enough cornmeal lying around in order to coat my okra well enough as I saw that Fran did, it still turned out great. It is a completely different texture from the one I was used to, and the crunchiness is great. I also particularly liked the combination of flavours: the tomato, the peppers, the spring onions and the bacon. I had the dish all to myself – I made 125g. Hands up, guilty of gluttony. Please click here for the original recipe from Fran.

And Fran, a big thank you for the recipe. I have already passed them on to a few fellow Brazilians who like me had not eaten fried okra before.

This is great! I've bookmarked Fran's recipe but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I usually eat okra made in a stew -- African style. I love it! This one is a different recipe that I'm anxious to try. I like the way you've prepared yours. You've inspired me. ;-)

By the way, I've signed up for e-mail notification of your blog update on FeedBlitz but I keep getting a message that something has changed on your blog????? Something like that. As a result, I'm not getting a full notification of your blog update.

I hope I'm making sense. What does the FeedBlitz message mean?

Obachan, I have really enjoyed this dish.

Paz, you have to try it. Interesting for you to say that okra stews are the Africa style as that's how we mostly eat it in Brasil. I am guessing that it is our African heritage playing its part here.
As for the feed, I have taken a look at the FeedBlitz message. It looks as if you need to click on the link to Trembom and it takes you into the new post. I am not very happy with the format of the e-mail but will only have time to look into it at the weekend. So please bare with me for the time being. The feedblitz message is to notify users of a new post.

Oh my goodnes--your okra looks so much prettier than mine did! Glad you liked it. I know what you mean about the gluttony! Our family loves it so much, there have been many "arguments" over who gets the last bite! I am anxious to try more okra in stews--both Brazilian & African styles. Thank you for the nice comments :) Maybe we need to do okra recipes from every continent!

Hi there: About the FeedBlitz email format, I don't have a problem with it. I was just a little puzzled with it, since it's different from the others that I get. But there's No problem with it's style for me, as I come here, whether I get an announcement or not. ;-)

It looks lovely, we eat okura raw in Japan :) I wasn't impressed when Gordon Ramsey called them revolting!
